Dan Newman Inducted Into Oklahoma Athletic Trainers Association Hall of Fame

A proud night for Union Athletics! Our Head Athletic Trainer is officially in the Oklahoma Athletic Trainers Association Hall of Fame! Congratulations Dan Newman!


Dan Newman has been an athletic trainer for more than 20 years. He started his education in Stillwater then finished his Bachelors of Science at the University of Tulsa. He went on to earn his Masters of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Nevada in 1999.

Dan worked as the Head Athletic Trainer at Stillwater High School from 1998-1999, then moved to Friends University in Wichita, Kansas where he oversaw 15 teams competing at the NAIA level until his departure in 2002.

Since the summer of 2002, Dan has worked at Union High School in Tulsa. Along with his daily responsibilities at Union, he has been part of many different pieces of athletic training throughout the city.

He coordinated and oversaw the health care for the Tulsa Talons from 2010-2011, and has served as an adjunct professor at the University of Tulsa since the fall of 2013.

Apart from his work as an athletic trainer, Dan has continued to give back to the profession by serving on numerous boards and committees. He currently holds a position on the BOC Standards Committee and is a faculty member on the Excellence in Secondary School Athletic Training Certification Program.

He has served the OATA in committee chair positions as well as being President from 2010-2012. He has been published and spoken numerous times to help aid the growth and education of athletic trainers everywhere. He has been nominated and earned multiple awards for the state, district, and national level and was recently awarded the MAATA Distinguished Athletic Trainer of the Year in 2020.
