Board Members Approve Purchase of Computers
The Board of Education approved the purchase of 658 computers from Brightcentra for testing purposes at a cost of $310,576.
The computers will primarily be used for testing purposes including WIDA-ACCESS, state, district, and Star assessments, explained Dr. Todd Nelson, senior executive director of Research-Design-Assessment. After the completion of this purchase, each school will have a set of computers dedicated for this purpose in order to streamline the testing process and ensure functional devices are available to all students as needed, Nelson said; if available, students may also use computers for instructional purposes.
Board members approved a number of other actions in a fairly routine meeting, including:
- Minor revisions to Board Policy 5500 regarding student transfers between school districts.
- Appointed Superintendent Dr. John Federline to serve as a member of the board of directors for Community Action Project of Tulsa.
- Renewed an agreement with Edmentum for its Exact Path tutorial software for math and English at a cost of $133,142.
- Accepted an opioid abatement grant for $150,000 from the state Attorney General’s office. The funds will be utilized to develop, promote, and provide evidence-based opioid use prevention strategies. These strategies include hope-centered picture books for elementary students, drug prevention curriculum for secondary students, out-of-school time programming, materials for elementary teachers to facilitate community circles, family hope session materials, and motivational speakers at the secondary level.
- Approved an updated Safe Return and Continuity of Services Plan for 2024 -2025 related to COVID-19 preparedness.
- Approved a bid from the Watts Company for $124,711 to replace Moore Elementary’s old freezer/cooler.
