Seniors Learn More Careers, College Opportunities Beyond Union At Senior Conference

 

 

More than 1,000 seniors participated in Union’s 7th annual Beyond U, a college and career preparedness conference, at Oklahoma State University-Tulsa in downtown Tulsa today.

The one-day event provides seniors the opportunity to attend breakout sessions of their choosing on a variety of topics related to college, careers, and successful “adulting.”

The day’s event started at the High School with featured speaker and Union alum (Class of 2016) Kolbi Jordan, who was a contestant on "American Idol" last spring, finishing in the top 10.

Jordan talked about her memories at Union, and encouraged students to be aware of their community – those people around you who support you – but urged students to also be their others in their ‘community’ and provide similar support and encouragement.

Born and raised in Tulsa, Jordan has sang in church, is a seasoned national anthem performer and has been involved in local theater. She played Asaka in a 2024 Theatre Tulsa production of the musical “Once on This Island.” Jordan played the dragon in Union's all-school musical of "Shrek" when she was a student at Union High School.

Later, seniors boarded buses for downtown where they attended as many as four session from more than 40 sessions covering ranging for construction to real estate to law enforcement.

 

While seniors attended the 7th Annual Beyond U Senior Conference, sophomores took the Pre-ACT test. Juniors stayed at home and worked on homework for a virtual learning day.
