All substitute applicants must attend one of the scheduled workshops held throughout the year.

Salary Schedule for Substitutes

  • Non-Certified Substitutes - $60.00/Day  -  Limited to a total of 90 days without a bachelor’s degree or 100 days with a bachelor’s degree
  • Certified Substitutes - $70.00/Day
  • Substitute Teacher Retired from Union - $90/Day
  • Long-Term Certified Substitutes - $110 a day starting on the 21st day of the same assignment
  • Long-Term Substitute Retired from Union - $120 a day starting on the 21st day of the same assignment

Important Notice to Applicants

Offers of employment with Union Public Schools will be contingent upon successfully passing a fingerprint-based criminal background check and a post-offer drug test.  See Criminal Record Search Procedures for Applicants for the District’s background check policy and see Board Policy 4026 for the District’s drug testing policy. If you are recommended for a position with the District, you will be provided specific instructions regarding the required background check and drug test.

Automated Educational
​Substitute operator (AESOP)

Union Public Schools uses AESOP, an automated substitute caller system, that combines computerized telephoning with the functions of the Internet to register absences, identify qualified replacements, and report to administrators. AESOP allows Union to manage the entire substitution process via software and the Internet.

How Do Substitutes Benefit?

The system provides multiple-medium absence acceptance. Substitutes are called and may accept jobs online. They can make AESOP their own personal calling system by going online and updating their calendar and available call times. Substitutes can be proactive by accepting jobs in advance, thus eliminating morning panic.​

  • Ability to check substitute history for each absence
