Union boasts one of the best athletics departments in the nation. Union athletes excel on all levels, locally, statewide and nationally. In addition to competitive sports, Union also offers intramural games. The spirit department - which includes cheerleaders, pom squads and Highstepper teams - is also under the auspices of the athletics department.
The mission of the Union Athletic Department is to help our student-athletes reach their highest academic and athletic potential; to inspire champions today and prepare leaders for tomorrow.
Union Athletics Begins Phase Two Activities
Union Athletics successfully entered Phase One return to activities June 8 and plans to enter Phase Two Monday, June 22, allowing certain strength and conditioning activities as well as sport-specific camps/clinics/try outs, Athletics Director Emily Barkley announced.
“After reviewing our ‘Phase-In to Athletic Activity’ process and procedures over the last two weeks, we feel we are ready to move into Phase 2 of our plan. We are still requiring the one time pre-screen, the daily temp check and screening questions, and masks, when social distancing cannot occur. We are still requiring hand washing, one restroom access, and detailed sanitizing. We are, however, allowing for more student-athletes in the weight room and use of a spotter if needed (spotter must wear face covering). Sport-specific camps/clinics/try outs can also occur if there has been prior approval from the athletic department. We recognize the situation is still very fluid and will reassess our plan if the need arises.”
Note: Not every sport is affected the same way. For specific questions about the summer activities offered for your respective sport, contact your student-athletes’ coach for clarification.
