Operations
The Operations Department includes the grounds, maintenance, and custodial departments for the school district. More than 100 custodial employees in the district are charged with cleaning and maintaining buildings.
Each of the school sites are provided with a certified building engineer and custodial staffing that is appropriate to the square footage of the building. The grounds department maintains the outside grounds for all of the facilities.
Maintenance
The Maintenance Department is comprised of 15 specialists and 23 building engineers who maintain equipment and ensure that all district facilities are running smoothly. During the year, employees complete some 10,000 work orders and monthly preventative maintenance orders.
Licensed specialists include a locksmith, two plumbers, two electricians, five HVAC technicians, two electronics technicians, two carpenters, and a painter; and each school site has at least one licensed building engineer.
The High School campus, including the UMAC, has five building engineers because of its size and large volume of day, night, and weekend activities.
Custodial
The Custodial Department has about 110 full- and part-time employees, including 20 lead custodian supervisors. Custodial staff members, collectively, clean and maintain about 3,323,544 square feet of building space.
Grounds
The Grounds Department’s 13 employees maintain more than 425 acres of district property at 23 different sites. In addition to regular grounds maintenance, the grounds crew handle playground maintenance, small asphalt and concrete repairs, signage, snow removal, preparation and clean up for events, and worked with the warehouse during large moves.
