Commencement to move to the BOK Center in May 2019
Dear Parent/Guardian of the Class of 2019,
We have made a very important change to our 2019 graduation ceremony.
After much analysis and reflection relating to the graduation experience at the Mabee Center, we have decided that a change of venue is in order. Our Class of 2019 graduates will celebrate commencement at the BOK Center in May 2019.
This move will be a significant change for Union. I am excited because it will allow us to offer adequate seating and space, while enhancing the security and safety for everyone. Due to growth in the number of graduates and family members in attendance, staying at the Mabee Center would have necessitated some dramatic changes. Moving downtown to the BOK Center will enable us to maximize the space without limiting our families’ participation in this special event.
We know that graduation will take place in May 2019, but we are unable to give you a firm date at this time. The BOK Center will not offer us a contract for a confirmed date until they finalize their spring concert schedule around December 1. We plan to present a graduation date for approval at our December board meeting.
While this change will not come without a few growing pains, rest assured that we will do everything we can to make this a stellar experience for Union graduates and their families. We look forward to celebrating the accomplishments of our graduates in May 2019 as we create new traditions at the BOK Center.
Kirt Hartzler, Ed.D.
