BUILDING EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS PLANS

Each school and administration building shall have a written emergency plan and procedure in place for protecting students, faculty, administrators, and visitors from natural and man-made disasters and emergencies. Plans should be reviewed and updated annually by each site and placed on file at each school, with the district’s Department of Safety and Security, and each local emergency response organization within the district, which may include police, fire, emergency medical services, sheriff, and emergency management of the appropriate jurisdiction. The plans shall be submitted in a format acceptable to the district’s Department of Safety and Security no later than November 1 of each year. An annual report shall be made to the Board of Education detailing the status of emergency preparedness planning at all sites.

 

DISTRICT SAFE SCHOOL COMMITTEE

The district shall establish and maintain a District Safe School Committee to be composed of administrative staff and faculty members from various departments within the district. The committee shall study and make recommendations to the district concerning employee safety training, safety issues at specific school sites, safety awareness programs, and accident and injury reports.

 

SITE SAFE SCHOOL COMMITTEE

Each school site shall establish a Safe School, Healthy & Fit Kids Committee to be composed of at least seven

(7) members who shall meet a minimum of three (3) times per calendar school year. The composition of the committee must include administrative staff, parent representative, student representative, and teachers. At least one (1) member must be an administrator who participates in the investigation of reports of bullying as required by law. These committees shall study and make recommendations to the principal regarding unsafe conditions, possible strategies for students to avoid harm at school, student victimization, crime prevention, school violence,

school nutrition needs, student physical activity initiatives, and other issues which prohibit the maintenance of a safe school. The minutes must be maintained by the principal and kept on file at the site.
