1500 Tobacco-Free Schools
The district, recognizing that the health of employees and students is a factor of concern, has declared the school environment to be tobacco-free. Smoking, the use of tobacco products or vapor products/e-cigarettes by any person, therefore, is not permitted in school buildings or on district property at any time, including parking lots and grounds.
Vapor products/e-cigarettes are defined as noncombustible products, that may or may not contain nicotine, that employ a mechanical heating element, battery, electronic circuit, or other mechanism, regardless of shape or size, that can be used to produce a vapor in a solution or other form. Vapor products/e-cigarettes include any vapor cartridge or other container with or without nicotine or other form that is intended to be used with an electronic cigarette, electronic cigar, electronic cigarillo, electronic pipe, or similar product or device and any vapor cartridge or other container of a solution that may or may not contain nicotine, that is intended to be used with or in an electronic cigarette, electronic cigar, electronic cigarillo, or electronic device. Vapor products/e-cigarettes do not include any products regulated by the United States Food and Drug Administration under Chapter V of the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.
It will be the policy of the district that all uses of tobacco or tobacco products, including smokeless tobacco and vapor products/e-cigarettes, will be prohibited in all of the district’s facilities or on its property 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
It will further be the policy of the district that students will not be permitted to use tobacco or tobacco products, including smokeless tobacco and vapor products/e-cigarettes, while they are participants in any class or activity in which they represent the district.
Employees of the district will not be permitted to use in public, or in view of the students, tobacco or tobacco products, including smokeless tobacco and vapor products/e-cigarettes, while they are participants in any class or activity in which they represent the district.
This policy applies to all employees of agencies and independent contractors who work with students and/or employees of the district, to spectators at various contests and activities, and to all other persons who are authorized to be in the district’s facilities or on the district’s property.
