4054 Anti-Violence
The Union Public School District considers the safety and security of its employees, students, patrons and other third-party visitors of the district to be a priority. Therefore, threats, threatening behavior, acts of violence and any related conduct including, but not limited to, physical violence, verbal or written threats or intimidation, intimidating gestures or actions, and violence against property will not be tolerated.
Any person who makes threats, exhibits threatening behavior or engages in violent acts on district property may be removed from the premises pending the outcome of an investigation. Threats, threatening behaviors or other acts of violence executed off district property or in the online/social media space but directed at employees, students or other persons on district property or during district-sponsored activities are also in violation of this policy. Off-site threats include, but are not limited to, threats made via the telephone, fax, electronic or conventional mail, online/ social media or any other communication medium.
Violations of this policy by employees may lead to disciplinary action up to and including suspension, demotion, termination or non-reemployment subject to applicable procedural and due process requirements. Prosecution of an employee may also result from illegal actions in violation of this policy.
If the source of such inappropriate behavior is a member of the public, the response may include barring the person(s) from district property, termination of business relationships with individual(s) and/or prosecution of the person(s).
Employees are responsible for notifying their supervisor(s) or the Human Resources Department of any threats or violence they have witnessed or that have been made or perpetrated against them or others. Employees should
also report any behavior they have witnessed which they regard as threatening or violent when that behavior is job related or might be carried out on district property or in connection with district employment.
