Union offers drama programs the middle and high school levels, including a middle school musical in the fall and an-district musical each spring. In addition, the High School and 9th Grade Center present other programs in the fall and spring, provide half-entertainment during pep assemblies and assist with video productions. Elementary schools also share dramatic presentations during special musical assemblies under the direction of their music teachers.
One-Act Performance of “The Last Years of Vincent Van Gogh” – October 4-9: The Last Years of Vincent Van Gogh is an original play written by Troy Powell and Adam Palmer that follows the tragic and inspiring life and works of the famed painter. We travel with Vincent to the small town of Arles France to find allies, love and ultimate betrayal. Vincent is a beautifully visual play that explores the hope and light that Vincent created in spite of his darkness within.
Musical Auditions for “Freaky Friday: – October 4-6 (call backs on October 7)
All-School Musical Performance for “Freaky Friday” – .February 3-5 (4 shows): When an overworked mother and her teenage daughter magically swap bodies, they have just one day to put things right again. Freaky Friday, a new musical based on the celebrated novel by Mary Rodgers and the hit Disney films, is a heartfelt, comedic, and unexpectedly emotional update on an American classic. By spending a day in each other's shoes, Katherine and Ellie come to appreciate one another's struggles, learn self-acceptance, and realize the immeasurable love and mutual respect that bond a mother and daughter.
24 Hour Play Fest – March 10-11 or March 24-25: Its a race to the finish line with a 24 hour countdown. Students are given 24 hours to write, rehearse and produce a short production for an audience. They are given a random begging line, closing line and an essential prop and then its up to them. Whether it be drama or comedy they are alway entertaining.
Spring Show Performance of “Puffs” – April 18-23: For seven years a certain boy wizard went to a certain Wizard School and conquered evil……..This, however, is not his story. This is the story of the Puffs… who just happened to be there too. A tale for anyone who has never been destined to save the world. This clever and inventive play “never goes more than a minute without a laugh” giving you a new look at a familiar adventure from the perspective of three potential heroes just trying to make it through a magic school that proves to be very dangerous for children. Alongside them are the Puffs, a group of well-meaning, loyal outsiders with a thing for badgers “who are so lovable and relatable, you’ll leave the theater wishing they were in the stories all along”. Their “hilariously heartfelt!” and epic journey takes the classic story to new places and reimagines what a boy wizard hero can be.
