They made it through elementary school and McAuliffe fifth graders survived the rain at their own graduation today.
Families gathered around the bleachers at the Union Soccer Complex while five classes of fifth graders marched to their seats on the open field. Just after they sat down, the light mist turned into a trickle and that trickle turned into rain.
Umbrellas popped up here and there; parents offered students some umbrellas and others huddled in the covered dug-outs. After a quick check of the weather, Principal Jennifer McKnight said it appeared the rain storm would just clip their celebration so graduation would continue.
And, after a few minutes, the rain did stop as the school recognized all five classes as well as the school’s Students of the Year. After the ceremony, families took photos with their children before the fifth grade was treated to a special dinner in their honor inside.
Congratulations 5th Grade, Class of 2021.
