Moore Elementary – Julie Godfrey, fourth grade
Fourth grade teacher Julie Godfrey has been named Teacher of the Year at Moore Elementary.
Why did Godfrey become a teacher?
“Well, the students, of course! I have always wanted to be a teacher,” Godfrey answers. “I can connect to all the students that don’t feel included and have a harder time in school. Elementary was not easy for me academically and socially. I love to think that I am a good role model, promoting inclusion for a better today and future. I am also a life learner, for all students and families, continuing to work on myself as a teacher, and a better person.”
Godfrey started teaching at Union in 2002. “I began my career as a teacher with Tulsa Public schools prior to Union. Preschool in my beginning years!”
She said, “Teaching this year has been different. I have had some medical issues that have made me grateful to still be teaching and able to be here for the students. I still love teaching and learning. I also had a sweet granddaughter born this year with Down syndrome. Being aware of inclusion is extremely important.”
Godfrey graduated from Tulsa University in 1986. “Later, I went back to receive my master’s in counseling at Northeastern State University. “I do believe that I am a life-long learner with a mission to help all students and their families.”
