Elevate 2020 Action Week Sept. 21-25 at the High School

Union Public Schools

The College and Career Center is hosting its first ever College/Career Action Week called “Elevate 2020” on the week of September 21-25.

The College & Career Center will host an entire week of events for in-person and virtual students, designed to help EVERY senior complete at least one action step toward their life after high school.

“The goal is that every senior would take at least one action step towards their post-high school plans – complete a college application, create a workforce resume, meet with a military recruiter, and so on,” said Emily Ashley, College/Career Advisor. “We have some info sessions on Monday – some in person, some virtual. And on the rest of the week, we are hosting application workshops, special interest sessions, and so on.”

Ashley said they want the entire school – not just seniors – to get involved. The College and Career Center suggests the following way to participate:

  • Wear your college gear every day!
  • Door decorating contest – work with a class or classes to decorate your door, college style! You can choose your alma matter or any other school. Include at least 3 facts about the school! Student volunteers will judge decorated doors on Wednesday, Sept. 23. The winning teacher will receive a $50 Amazon card and the winning class will receive donuts or pizza!
  • “#WhyApply” sheet (coming soon to classroom mailboxes) – fill it out with your reason for applying to college (or any good reason) and post it outside your door so students walking the halls can check out all the great reasons to apply to college!

Advisors also shared tips with teachers on how they can participated in a number of events planned.

Special Mention: Kudos to Senior Anthony Vang for designing the new logo. It looks great!
