Geography teacher Rebecka Rhodes has been named the 2022-2023 Teacher of the Year the Union 6th Grade Center.
“I started teaching in 1998 and I began teaching at Union in 2003 after substitute teaching in the district for several years,” Rhodes said.
She continues to teach because of Oklahoma people.
“I was born and raised here – I love it, I love the people, and I love teaching here. So, I stay because Oklahoma is my home and I believe I am here at Union for a reason,” Rhodes said.
She said, “My favorite classroom activity is being able to ‘take’ my students (through modern technology) to places around the world they have never seen and expose them to so many different cultures and ways of life. I want to help them build a respect and admiration for our world and the wonderful people in it.”
Rhodes received her bachelor’s degree from Oral Roberts University and she became certified in English as a second language earlier this year.
