When many people are just waking up or trying to find their morning coffee, Union students in the Renegade Regiment Marching Band are already up – before dawn – stretching and learning routines for another season of band competition.
In these pictures from Thursday, September 22, Union students are polishing a routine in time for the football game against Owasso High School. But more important, they plan to compete – and win – in the Owasso Marching Invitational on Saturday, March 24.
Preliminaries are scheduled for 3:45 p.m. at Owasso High School and finals will be Saturday night. It will be a full night: Union is not expected to leave Owasso until midnight.
Nearly every school day in the fall, Renegade Regiment Marching Band members spend a little more than two hours in practice – starting school well before their peers at Union High Schools and UHS Freshman Academy. Even earlier than football.
The students, under the direction of Charles Pisarra and a team of talented adults, are prepping for competition in Owasso on Saturday, September 24. More events await the busy students including Homecoming next week, followed by the Mustang Invitational on October 1 and their very own Renegade Review Marching Band competition on Saturday, October 8.
