Ellen Ochoa Teacher Publishes Poetry Collection

Ellen Ochoa teacher music teacher Kelly Morris has written her first book, “If I Were Made of Glass: Poetry Collection,” which is now on sale on Amazon.

The poems in this collection are reflections and stories of “both the beauty and heartache of life and death, family, friendships, and this world in which we live,” according to Morris.

“I began blogging several years ago with the idea of sharing personal reflections and stories,” Morris said. “Writing helps me process and share emotions. Blogging brought an interest in poetry. I quickly realized poetry was a way to communicate deep feelings in a relatively short form.

Morris said she dreamed of having a book published for years, thinking it would be a children’s book.

“Drafts of several stories still linger on my laptop. However, it was poetry that brought my dream to fruition. I submitted my poetry to an independent publisher, Potter’s Grove Press. The collection was accepted, and my very first poetry collection was released on June 15, 2021.”

“If I Were Made of Glass” is available for purchase on Amazon here.

“It is a collection of personal stories and reflections shared through poetry,” she said. “My hope is readers will be able to connect to events in their own lives. … Though not specifically a children’s book, it has provided new ways for me to connect with my students. I am a music teacher at Ochoa Elementary. In addition to sharing my love of music with students, I now also share my love of writing. Some have started writing poetry and sharing their words with me. And that is a reward in itself.”
