Kindergarten teacher Liz Jenkins has been named the 2020-2021 Teacher of the Year for Jefferson Elementary School.
“I became a teacher because I want to show love to all students, especially those who may not receive it anywhere else,” Jenkins said.
“ Due to the coronavirus, stress levels are higher,” Jenkins said, but she and her class are facing those challenges, which include an assortment of things.
“The cleaning protocol, social distancing, and masks present new challenges,” Jenkins said, “especially when working with 5-year old’s!”
Jenkins started teaching at Union in 2011.
“I am truly a Union Public Schools lifer!,” Jenkins said. “I began my journey with Union in kindergarten and graduated high school in 2006. I received my bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from Oklahoma State University. I have been teaching kindergarten at Jefferson Elementary since graduating college. I recently received my English as a Second Language certification.”
The District Teacher of the Year will be announced during an online event on Monday, January 11, 2021, during a professional development day. Being named Teacher of the Year is one of the highest honors a teacher can receive at Union. All of the school site Teachers of the Year will be recognized in January.
