Union Alternative School celebrated ‘The Magnificent 7’ during its Block 1 Graduation ceremony.
“It’s a little weird this year,” Principal Chris Ducker said as the normally packed cafeteria was mostly empty save for a few family members and visitors and the seven seniors, all of whom were wearing masks and social distancing. “But we got this.”
Normally the rest of the school would pack into the room and watch the celebration, but this year, the event was streamed within the school. Other students watched from their classrooms. The school hopes to post the video on social media later.
Ducker commended the seven, reminding them that Alt Ed was not saying ‘goodbye” but instead “until we see you again.” He called them “The Magnificent 7.”
Each of the seven - Ethan Fry, Carmen Pisonero, Quin Bruce, Zoe Spille, Larissa Flanary, Ashtyn Brooks and Thomas Phillips – were recognized at the podium as Ducker read a special message from them. State Rep. Ross Ford, a former Union Board of Education member, also read a citation in their honor and congratulated them on finishing high school.
