Adult Education (UALC)

Union Public Schools provides adult education classes to the community at the Union Adult Learning Center (UALC).  Partnering with Career Tech and CAP Tulsa, UALC provides GED and HiSET preparation classes, as well as English as a Second Language classes for those interested in furthering their education and expanding their knowledge and use of the English language. Additionally, UALC offers Early Childhood Education (ECE) for children of parents attending our classes at UALC.

ALL classes at UALC are available at no cost to the students. Days of class and times vary with each location. All adult classes are taught by highly experienced Oklahoma certified teachers.  In addition to UALC, other class locations can be found throughout the Tulsa metro area, Claremore, Muskogee, Owasso, and Pryor.

Union ALC is also home to the Union Public Schools Testing Center where individuals can register and take the official GED and HiSET exams.

GED and HiSET Preparation

Classes are provided for adults who are no longer attending high school and need basic skills instruction in reading, writing, math, and life skills.

GED and Industry Certification Exams

Passing the General Educational Development (GED) or HiSET test qualifies adults to receive a high school equialency diploma issued by the State of Oklahoma and participate in our UALC graduation ceremony. Exams are available on paper or computer. We also offer certification exams for various fields such as IT, health, and education through our Pearson VUE testing center.

English as a Second Language

English as a Second Language (ESL) classes provide instruction to non-English speaking adults.  Students learn communication and assimilation skills in order to be productive citizens.

Family Literacy

Family Literacy classes offer ABE and ESL to parents along with parent/child interaction time.  By learning together as a family, the program reinforces life skills that parents and children need to succeed.

Workplace Literacy

These classes are designed specifically to teach ABE or ESL to employees in order to achieve high performance work and product quality.  Union’s instruction staff will identify tasks important to the employer and make those tasks the focus of basic skills.

Red Ribbon Week

Red Ribbon Week, which is celebrated annually October 23-31, is the nation’s oldest and largest drug prevention awareness program. Union Public Schools will host a myriad of activities during this time to raise awareness as well.

Red Ribbon Week was started after the death of Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Special Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena, who in 1985 was brutally tortured and murdered by drug traffickers he was investigating in Mexico.  As a tribute to SA Camarena, high school friend, Henry Lozano and Congressman Duncan Hunter, created “Camarena Clubs” and the wearing of a red ribbon to show their oppositions to drugs.

Union school sites will host activities ranging from special assemblies, special dress-up days to classroom activities that address the concerns related to illicit drugs.
