Safety & Security Dept.

Union Public Schools believes in the importance of keeping students safe and secure, whether they are in a classroom, an extracurricular activity, or even traveling between school and home – this is not just important it is a priority.

Union has in place an initiative to manage and consolidate the Union School district’s security and prevention services providing the opportunity to explicitly address security, orderliness, and caring in our schools.

Utilizing the principles of progressive collaborative community engagement, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and peace building, Union is creating the necessary processes and providing the technical assistance to bring together Union stakeholders, to support them in assessing their needs, and strengthen their capacity to leverage all available resources to develop and sustain peaceable schools.

In fact, Union wants its students to be safe even when they are at home, providing programs on fire safety, bad weather, and avoiding illegal drugs and alcohol. Each year, administrators review emergency procedures, security concerns and safety precautions for its students, families, and staff.

2016-17 Statistics

Coordinator as well as 10 full-time Security Officers at the secondary schools and 25 part-time officers for athletic and special events.  One Broken Arrow School Resource Officer was on call daily in addition to six off-duty Tulsa Police Department officers on a rotating schedule, allowing one to patrol the district each day.  Emergency Procedure posters were updated and distributed to all schools.  Two security officers attended Incident Command Training to learn how to function in an emergency until emergency responders arrive.

District employees completed more than 5,000 assigned training courses and more than 1,300 unassigned safety courses on their own for a training completion rate of 95%.  The Security Coordinator met with students at elementary sites weekly and performed routine safety walks at all sites, with follow ups including the site administrator.

Security

Union Public Schools is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for students, staff and visitors. In an effort to accomplish this goal the district provides a comprehensive security program.

Goals

The Union Security Department is honored to serve our students, staff, parents and community members. Our goal is to help create a safe learning environment for our students and staff and help ensure the safety of our students, staff, parents and community members at district events.

Personnel

Our department is comprised of one director of security, one district security coordinator, one secretary, 11 full-time school security officers (SSO), one Broken Arrow police officer (SRO), six part-time police officers, and 30 provisional security officers that work events for the district. Each officer has 20 hours training per year.
