Resources
Peters Elementary is a nationally accredited school located within the city limits of Tulsa's neighbor, Broken Arrow. Housing additions that feed into the school include Brick Town, Quail Run, Turtle Creek, Stone Mill, Floral Haven, Horsehoe Acres, Washington Estates and portions of Country Aire. Currently, school enrollment totals 540 students. It serves preschool, kindergarten and first through fifth grades.
Tom W. Peters Elementary was named in May 1978 after the founder of Oklahoma Greenhouses. Peters served on the Union Public Schools Board of Education for 16 years and was known for ensuring that cafeterias were built in Union schools.
Peters Elementary is a First Amendment Affiliate School. We are committed to teach and model the democratic principles of freedom and democracy. We are continually developing curriculum designed to support and promote responsible citizenship as well as providing opportunities for students to learn moral character skills and to practice service learning.
Excellence
The mission at Peters is to provide excellence in education for every student, everyday, without exception.
There are 35 faculty members, many of whom hold degrees past the bachelor's level, and each of them is certified by the state of Oklahoma in the areas they teach. Our teachers believe in quality learning for all students. Therefore, they spend additional time participating in professional development classes and are members of professional learning communities. Their focus is to work together to improve student achievement. Time is spent during embedded collaboration to identify grade level essential skills, develop common assessment tools, analyze student achievement, and implement research based teaching strategies.
Parents
Parental interest and involvement is reflected by the overwhelming support and attendance at school functions. Community support for education is strong as the Peters community consistently supports school bond issues. Indeed, dedicated teachers, committed parents, and eager students supply the needed ingredients for a successful school program.
Tracks for Success
Looping
Students in primary grades have the same teacher for two successive years in what is called looping. A two-year span with the same teacher provides a child with greater continuity in experience, both socially and academically.
Instruction Programs
Peters has the following instructional programs: Gifted and Talented, English Language Learner, Native American, Remedial Reading, Skill Building, Learning Lab for Special Education Students, Speech and Language Therapy, Physical and Occupational Therapy.
Extended Day Program
The Extended Day Program (EDP) provides safe, alternative educational child care, enhancing the child’s extended day. Recognizing the busy lifestyles of today’s family, the district attempts to work in partnership with home and parents by providing before and after school supervision at the school site. Extended Day Program hours are 7:00-8:55 a.m. and 3:30-6:00 p.m.
Specialty classes
Specialty classes in the areas of music, art and physical education are in place as students are combined from various classes within each grade level, and attendance is scheduled on a rotation plan. A media specialist, a school nurse and a school counselor are also on staff to provide services. A computer tech is on staff providing technology assistance in the computer lab. A mini-lab is also contained within the library for additional services.

Leadership
Various activities and leadership opportunities are provided through the following: Service Projects, library aides, Peters Choir, student council, peer mediation, safety patrol, Junior Great Books, PTA, PTA Reflections, Youth Arts, drama, T.V. Studio aides, student newspaper and Chess Club.
Readers are Leaders
Peters’ students are excited about reading. Each student receives a nine-week goal based on their individualized reading level. The Accelerated Reading Program has helped to generate this excitement about reading!
