Cheerleading Coaches:

Varsity Cheer – Coaches Stacey Beams and Cat Weeden

Cheerleaders increase crowd participation for football games, basketball games and wrestling matches. Cheerleaders determine which chants and cheers should be performed as other spirit squads follow their lead. Cheerleaders attend all home and away games, pep rallies and as many community activities as possible.

Requirements

Union Schools - OklahomaThe following are the required skills for a Union Cheerleader. In addition, you will have the option to perform a higher scoring tumbling pass and/or standing tumbling along with the following required skills for the tryout:

8th Grade Cheer: Round off, toe touch, best side herkie, and best front hurdler

9th Grade Cheer: Round off backhandspring, toe touch, best side herkie, and best front hurdle

JV Cheer: Round off back tuck, standing backhandspring, toe touch, pike and best front hurdler

Varsity Cheer: Round off backhandspring back tuck, standing back tuck, toe touch, pike, and best front hurdler

Union Schools - OklahomaCompetitions are encouraged and expected for our squads. The following is an approximation for the squads:

  • Varsity squad participants should plan to attend a State competition and an additonal 3-4 competitions per year including Regional and National level competitions.
  • Junior-Varsity squad participants should plan to attend State competition and an additonal 3-4 competitions per year including Regional and National level competitions. Any competitions out-of-state but will be within an approved driving distance of 5 hours or 300 miles from the Tulsa area.
  • 9th grade squad participants should plan to attend a State competition and an additonal 2-3 in-state competitions
  • 8th grade squad participants should plan to attend State competition and an additonal 2-3 in-state competitions.
  • All competitions will be chosen by the coaches and approed by the director of atheltics.

 

2012-2012 Varsity Cheerleaders

Union Schools - Oklahoma

Thirty-one girls have been selected as the 2012-13 Union Varsity Cheerleading Team. With a strong history of numerous 6A state championships and four recent back-to-back National Titles, the team is focused on continuing the legacy.

“This is a very strong team, in fact, one of the strongest I’ve had the honor of coaching,” says Co-Head Coach Cat Weeden. “I have high hopes and am confident we will come home with Regional, State and National Titles again this year.”

The team has an extremely high overall Grade Point Average (GPA) with many of the girls carrying a 4.0 GPA and being members of the National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society.

“Our girls are active in community service, school clubs, their churches and other outside activities. They are a great example of leadership and are positive role models for their peers,” says Co-Head Coach Stacey Beams.

The team includes 14 seniors, nine juniors and eight sophomores:

Seniors: Brianna Beasley, Gabby Claxton, Britain Drennan, Treyce Glidden, Kiersten Haws, Brie Jackson, Brooke Johanson, Malorie Kalens, Mackenzie Kulka, Kelsey Leggett, Megan Majewski, Abbey Pellow, Brittney Rutledge and Haleigh Trentham.

Juniors: Lanie Bailey, Brooklynn Bigelow, Haley Beaird, Tristin Billingsley, Kourtney Cupp, Keigan Munoz, Kennedy Scheer and Sarah St. John.

Sophomores: Sabrina Bogle, Ashley Bracken, Mallory Gatlin, Madi Hargis, Demery Pennington, Alex Pitchford, Dominique Rodriguez and Maddie White.

Each year the team raises funds to offset travel costs to games and competition in addition to entry fees. This year the team has set of goal of almost $70,000. Area businesses and individuals can support the team through donations in addition to attending various fundraisers held by the team. Please send all donations to Sal Munoz, 1114 S.
