As a group, our speech and debate team has made great strides this year. One metric by which we measure ourselves as a team is degrees received from the National Forensic League Honor Society. This year, Union has added 21 new degrees so far. Halfway through the season we have already passed last year’s 18. This has moved Union from 15th to 10th in the East Oklahoma District since the beginning of the school year; and it has all been done with a team in which about 90 percent of the members are brand new to the activity this year.
If you know any students in speech and debate, please let them know how amazing their accomplishment is.
Many of them have taken home individual awards throughout this semester. If you would like to help out and support the team, we are always in need of judges for competition. The requirements are not as daunting as you might think. The main requirement is time on a Saturday. If you are interested please contact me.
