Cheerleaders win honors at summer camp
August 2, 2007
Members of the Varsity Cheer squad are: Krista Anderson, Taylor Barber, Olivia Barton, Brooklin Beasley, Andrea Bedingfield, Kiana Billups, Brandi Cheek, Stacey Durant, Clarissa Ebigwu, Kalyn Forsythe, Nikki Gardner, Kelli Griffin, Amy Guey, Rachel Hunter, Jordan Harris, Logan Lamb, Miranda Leard, Kelsy Litchenburg, Meg Marder, Morgan Minihan, Cortney Mudd, Brittany Orr, Mercedes Owens, Taylor Paik, Alyssa Papen, Dea Pennington, Nicole Saffle, Katie Sherrell, Becca Slaughter, Shayna Stillwell, Amber Whitlock, Whitney Woods and Rhema Wright.
Union spirit teams collected a number of accolades over the summer.
The Union Varsity Cheerleaders won Top Team over the summer at the NCA Cheer Camp at Oklahoma State University.
The cheerleaders also won Champion Chant, 19 All-American honors and 31 all-American Nominees. The teams also won Stunt Smart Award, Technical Expertise Award in Tumbling and three Spirit Sticks. Five seniors were nominated NCA staff instructors for next year. Team member Alyssa Papen won Top All-American.
During summer camp, Varsity Pom collected first place for its home routine and was the Team Drill Down winner. Varsity Pom also won a Team Superior Trophy and earned blue ribbons for all routine evaluations. Megan Atchley and Megan Snowbarger were named Drill Down Queens – the top two girls in the camp. Snowbarger and Alyssa Curley were also named UDA All-Stars.
JV Cheer won Champion Chant trophy with Top Team honors, the Stunt Smart Award, the Technical Excellence Award in Motion Technique and the TEAM award. JV Pom won second place, the Leadership Award and the Super Trophy. Ninth Grade Pom won first place. Eighth Grade Pom won first place, the Rock Star Award four Spirit Sticks.
