November 17, 2009
by Shanda Sullivan, 5th Grade Teacher, Roy Clark Elementary
On Wednesday, November 11, Clark Elementary School, 3656 S. 103rd E. Ave., had an assembly to honor veterans. Students were asked to invite a veteran to be honored at the assembly. Students and staff were able to personally give thanks to 19 military heroes for serving our country. Included in those 19 are Clark’s own Kent Jones, Sunnie Walden and Teresa Moore.
The fifth graders showed their appreciation in many ways. A performance, put together by music teacher Shelly Eulenfeld, included the Salutation Samba, an orff and drum ensemble and the song May Peace Be Always with You.
Fifth graders also wrote essays for Veteran’s Day and two of the students were picked to read theirs during the assembly. The celebration was concluded with a slide show put together by Daniel Royer and Kobe Vanderboegh. It showed pictures of men and women who have fought for our country and included messages of thanks.
