Did you know what YOU wanted to be in Second grade? Well, Cedar Ridge second graders had a chance to learn about many possible jobs that they can choose when they grow up. They also got to hear lots of information from their parents about what they do at their jobs. WOW, two questions answered with this unit. What does my mom or dad do while they are at their jobs, and who are community helpers?
The second graders at Cedar Ridge studied Community Helpers during their “My Community” Unit. They learned about all different types of jobs. Parents who work in our community came to visit us and talk to us about their jobs. They told us about the type of schooling they needed in order to do their job, the types of tools they use for their job, what subjects are important for their job, their favorite part about their job and what made them choose their job.
We heard from lots of different community helpers—the Cedar Ridge principal, Mrs. Crager; the Cedar Ridge school counselor, Mrs. Strom; a St. Francis nurse, Kay McMullen; the Union Head Football Coach, Coach Fred; the Head Athletic Trainer for Union, Dan Newman; the pastor at The Church at Battle Creek, Alex Himaya; a dentist, Mr. Evans; and an ophthalmologist, Dr. Brute Wolf. We had so much fun hearing about all of the types of jobs in our community.
Special thanks to all the Community Helpers who came to share with our Cedar Ridge second graders.
