The National Merit Scholarship Program, a privately financed academic scholarship competition, has named 11 Union High School seniors National Merit Finalists. The students are Celia C. Beck, Miriam R. Blankenship, Stephen J. Elkind, Allison L. Grindle, Angela D. Liniger, Andrew J. Morris, Jordan D. Rader, Heather N. Stiverson, Heather L. Urquhart, Kathryn D. Warden and Rachel L. Williams.

The students are Celia C. Beck, Miriam R. Blankenship, Stephen J. Elkind, Allison L. Grindle, Angela D. Liniger, Andrew J. Morris, Jordan D. Rader, Heather N. Stiverson, Heather L. Urquhart (not pictured), Kathryn D. Warden and Rachel L. Williams.
National Merit Finalists are selected based on their performance on the PSAT/NMSQT--a test that measures verbal, math and writing skills, as well as additional academic requirements. Merit Scholars are chosen from the group of Finalists, based on their abilities, skills, and accomplishments.
Merit scholarship awards include National Merit $2500 Scholarships and corporate- and college-sponsored scholarships.
