Buddy Walk held at Central Park

10th Annual "Buddy Walk" to benefit Down Syndrome Association

Participants laced up their sneakers on Sunday for the 10th annual “Buddy Walk” for the Down Syndrome Association of Tulsa. The walk was held at Union Public Schools’ Central Park in Tulsa, at East 62nd Street and Mingo.

“It’s a day to celebrate individuals with Down Syndrome and a day for fun and support for the families,” said co-chair of the event, Erin Paul.

The walk was a half mile long and featured a live band, games and other exhibits along the path.

“This is our tenth walk, we started with 500 people and today were have over six-thousand people,” said Paul.

More than 250 Buddy Walks are held nation wide every year. The event promotes acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome as well as raises funds for local programs and advocacy initiatives.

FOX23’s Michelle Lynn and Ron Terrell emceed the event.

Chelsea Parsons has participated in the Buddy Walk for more than four years and said that walks in celebration of her best friend, Tessa.

“Everyone should know how special these kids are,” said Parsons.

The month of October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month.
