Union’s 6th and 7th Grade English Language Learner (English as a second language) Students had the opportunity to spend three weeks to practice their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills during ELL Summer School. Students solved mysteries in science, read about the struggles of the Sudanese people in A Long Walk to Water and explored Sudan through engaging geography lessons.
As a culminating event, students shared their talents and showcased their progressing English ability in a culminating “Twelve Days of Awesomeness Talent Show.” A gracious thank you goes to the ELL Summer School teachers, Scott Pennington, Tracy Clay and Kara Brunk for their focused lessons and fun learning environment. An additional thank you goes to the administrative staff at the 6th/7th Grade Center, Mr. Pittman and Mrs. Pettit, for opening up their building to our ELL students. -- Tara Schiffelbein, English Language Learner Curriculum Specialist
