Union celebrates Pi Day with pies, of course
Originally posted March 10, 2017
High school Assistant Principal Joshua Robinson took one for the team. And then he took another one – a juicy blueberry pie – as Alpha Mu Theta (Math Club) celebrated Pi Day on Friday.
Pi Day is observed by math aficionados every March 14 but spring break moved up their plans.
The club, sponsored by teachers Donna Hardway, Bill Johnson and Rebecca Peterson, had been selling votes to select which principals should get pied. A drawing was also held for two lucky students.
Amiaya Fortenberry was the lucky student who pie’d Mr. Robinson. (But the photographer wanted a more dramatic pie face and asked her to pie him again.) During the sophomore lunch, Erin Embrey smacked a chocolate cream pie into Assistant Principal Clayton Hucke’s face.
Meanwhile, senior Max Xie won the pie eating contest against junior Ben Perez, repeating his win from the previous year.
The club conducted other activities including Pi Haiku, pi trivia and a chance for students to see how many numbers of Pi they could recite.
