UNION'S 34-20 victory over Jenks in last year's Class 6A state title game reversed a trend in their football rivalry.
Before that game, the loser of their regular-season Backyard Bowl game had won four of the previous five state titles. And the loser of the Jenks-Union game in the regular season had won their previous three playoff rematches. Union won last year's Backyard Bowl in overtime.

The four teams left in Class 6A and 5A have combined to reach 48 championship games. Jenks leads the group with its 19th appearance, with Carl Albert and Union each reaching 11 now. Bixby, seeking its first title in its seventh finals appearance, owns the state record of most title-game appearances without winning a title.

Fifth graders at Jarman Elementary School, 9015 E. 79th, send a big thanks to Sam's Club for donating flower arrangements and giving a discount on the cake that was served to the veterans after last month's Veteran's Day assembly.
