The Redskins’ defense, led by senior linebacker Blace Walser, achieved their shutout goal ahead of schedule. Walser had two takeaways as Union blanked Evangel Christian 21-0 in a nationally televised season opener for both teams on Friday night at Union-Tuttle Stadium.

The top-ranked Redskins have a new starting quarterback in Hunter Atyia, an impressive backup last season, but the offense looked solid in last week's 17-7 scrimmage victory against Springdale Har-Ber (Ark.).
