    November 1, 2010
The 6th-7th grade ELL Newcomers class went on a field trip October 18 when they visited the ranch of Harold and Gwynna Clay, who live in Catoosa, Oklahoma. The students visited bee hives, harvested honey, rode a hayride to feed cattle, had a hot dog roast with smores, and learned about life in the past by touring the log cabin with old tools and windmill. • Science - not magic

    October 29, 2010

An annual tradition at Union High School, 6636 S. Mingo Road, chemistry teacher Penny Leary dressed up in costume today and wowed students with feats of - not magic - but science and chemistry, showing how different chemicals and agents create sparklers, smoke and fire. One of Leary's main points is that these agents react based on scientific principles - too little, and even too much, will not produce the desired effect.
