Parents, watch for important survey

Originally posted May 9, 2012

Parents, watch for an important survey from the principal!

The State Department of Education just sent districts around the state “School Climate and Community/Parent Engagement Surveys” referenced in the new A-F Grading System created to assess schools.  Unfortunately, because Union just received the surveys and the State has given us a VERY short timeline in which to comply (before the end of the school year) your immediate attention is requested.

Here are just a few reasons we need your help:

  • Completed surveys give EACH SPECIFIC SCHOOL the opportunity to receive a bonus point on the upcoming A-F report card.
  • The Oklahoma School Climate Survey (OSCS) must be completed by at least
o 90 percent of certified faculty,
o 20 percent  of students, and
o 10 percent of parents in the school.
  • Each stakeholder (teacher, parent, student) will have a unique survey to complete. Parents will receive the survey from the principal; students will take the survey at school; and faculty will complete the survey by their May 23 work day.
  • The surveys are short. The parent survey will take 2-3 minutes and the student survey will take 10-15 minutes, at the most.
  • An overall average rating of a 4 or higher on a 5-point scale will qualify the school for a bonus point.

We regret the State Department of Education’s timing in delivery of the survey to us as well as the very short time we have to comply during an already incredibly busy time of the year.  However, since the A-F grade your child’s school will receive is affected by the number of responses we are able to report to the Department, we ask that you complete the short survey as soon as you receive it.  Thank you for your assistance!
