Jarman, Moore principals announced

Replacements for two elementary principals, one who is changing positions and the other who is retiring, were announced this morning.
Faculty and staff at Moore Elementary were introduced to Tamra Bird, who is leaving Briarglen to take the position currently held by Sandi Calvin. It was announced last month that Calvin will be the director of elementary education. Superintendent Dr. Cathy Burden, and Associate Superintendent Dr. Kirt Hartzler will meet with the Briarglen staff soon to learn what characteristics they are hoping for in the next Briarglen principal. A decision will be made before the end of this school year.
The Board of Education recently approved early retirement for Jarman Elementary Principal Patti Pitcock, effective the end of this school year. (See related story.) Stepping into that position is Shawna Thompson, Clark Elementary administrative intern.
"We are grateful for the tremendous legacy being left by Patti Pitcock and Sandi Calvin," said Dr. Kathy Dodd, assistant superintendent for Teaching and Learning. "We are fortunate to have strong, collaborative principal leadership at each of our schools. And it is through the assistant principal/administrative internship program that veteran principals have the opportunity to develop the next generation of principals ready to lead their own schools, " Dodd said.
The changes become effective this summer.
