The Union High School Orchestra traveled to Chicago, Illinois to compete in the Dixie Classics National Adjudicator Invitational where they received a first-place national title! Under the direction of Pete Peterson the Orchestra received compliments from the adjudicators saying that the Orchestra was unparalleled and exquisite in their musicality and performance, and were blown away by the maturity of the young students- the best group they had heard all day. See related story.
"We performed in this contest on Saturday, April 21, and not only received straight superior ratings, but received the highest score from the judges, therefore receiving the first place honor award," Peterson said.
While in Chicago, the Orchestra performed at The Field Museum, visited Navy Pier and the Lincoln Park Zoo, and saw the Chicago Sinfonietta perform Beethoven’s 8th Symphony.
