The Union High School marching band will perform in the 2013 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, officials announced Friday.
Macy's executives flew to Tulsa to surprise the students with the news during a confetti-filled band meeting in the school's auditorium. A handful of Union officials have known for weeks, but kept the secret.
"I've had my eye on you guys for quite some time," explained Wesley Whatley, the parade's creative director. "What you guys do on the marching field is extraordinary."
Juniors and seniors, however, will graduate before the band goes to New York City, leaving today's sophomores to look forward to it.
"It made my day," said trombone player Stephan Scrivener. "It made my year, my year-and-a-half."
