Dear Union Teachers and Administrators,

This Monday evening, April 9, we are recommending to the Board of Education the new evaluation plan committees of your peers have researched and selected.

Union Public Schools must implement new teacher and leader evaluation tools because of changes in state law. More specifically, lawmakers passed Senate Bill 2033 in 2010, thereby changing the criteria for Teacher and Leader Effectiveness Evaluations for the state of Oklahoma (70 O.S. § 6-101.1670.) Several of your colleagues closely examined all the models approved by the State Board and Department of Education.

Chaired by Boevers Assistant Principal Intern Bethany Harper, the teacher committee is recommending the Tulsa Teacher Leader Effectiveness framework, created and piloted by Tulsa Public Schools. The administrative group, chaired by Chris Ducker, Administrative Intern at Union Intermediate, is recommending the McRel Model for administrators’ evaluations.

Portions of the new evaluation models must be implemented this fall for the 2012-13 school year. In the coming weeks, we will be sharing details of both the Teachers TLE and the Leaders TLE administrative models.

As always, we encourage you to send us questions or comments by clicking Share questions/comments on the top of each page.

Sincerely,
Cathy Burden, Ph.D.
Superintendent
