Dear Friends of Union Public Schools,
Congratulations and thank you for “Getting to the Heart of It!” Both of Union’s propositions on the 2012 bond issue passed on February 14 with overwhelming approval from the voters. Proposition No. 1 garnered 78.41 percent of the vote, with Proposition No. 2 taking 79.10 percent.
Additionally, 32 percent more voters – 2,775 in total - participated in this election compared to last year. The $19 million bond will now fund completion of the Union Collegiate Academy, a new fine arts wing at the 6th/7th Grade Center, improvements to the tennis courts and swimming pool, new buses and additional improvements throughout the district.
Since the benefits of the bond issue will impact every student, voters can be assured that academic achievement and student engagement will continue to be priorities throughout the district. Strong voter approval is appreciated and reinforces the excellence of our staff. It also sends the message that Union patrons believe in public education and support Union Public Schools.
Thank you for your partnership and efforts to ensure that Union is a premiere school district with an environment that nurtures and challenges every student.
Sincerely,
Cathy Burden, Ph.D.
Superintendent
