Administrative changes for new year announced



August 2, 2007

New and familiar educators will be working with students as the new year begins. List of Administratiors

Tim Neller, former 8th Grade principal, has been named director of Child Nutrition. He has been with Union since 1999 as assistant principal at the Sixth/Seventh Grade Center and a teacher at the Alternative School. He has been in education for more than 29 years and is completing his doctoral thesis at Oklahoma State.

Marla Robinson was named principal of the 8th Grade Center. She previously served as academic assistant principal at the High School. Robinson, who has 14 years of experience in education, has worked at Union for the past six years.

Lisa Witcher, former academic assistant principal at Union Intermediate High School, is the new director of Profes-sional Development. Witcher will coordinate educational opportunities for teachers and other educators for the district.

Lynn McClure, who was the director of Professional Development, has been appointed to oversee Union’s new Early Head Start program, which will work to provide educational opportunities for toddlers and infants.

Kim Whiteley will be the principal for Union’s 13th elementary school which is slated to open in the fall of 2008. Whiteley will prepare for the opening while she continues to serve as principal of McAuliffe Elementary.

Assistant Principal Kim Berns will move from Grove Elemen-tary to serve as assistant principal at Clark Elementary School.

Administrative Intern Doug Nelson was promoted to assistant principal at the Sixth/Seventh Grade Center.

Mark Officer, former assistant principal at the Sixth/Seventh Grade Center, will relocate to the Intermediate High where he will perform the same kinds of duties.

Assistant Principal John Federline will transfer from the Intermediate High School to serve as assistant principal at Union High School.

Two Union teachers and a counselor have also been named to assistant principal positions. Susan Hartzler, a counselor at the 6th/7th Grade Center, will be the academic assistant principal at the Intermediate High School. Hartzler has been with the district since 1986, working as a teacher and eventually a counselor. She received her Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Evangel College in Springfield, Missouri.
 
Alycia Pennington, who was a teacher at Andersen Elemen-tary, will serve as an administrative intern at Rosa Parks.  She received her Bachelor of Elementary Education from Northeastern State University in 1994, worked as a teacher for Sand Springs and for Union from 1994 to 1998, before working in the private sector for a few years. Pennington has been teaching at Andersen since 2004.

Stacy Durbin, a multiage teacher at Briarglen Elementary School, will serve as administrative intern at Grove. Durbin has been with Union since 2001, but has been teaching since 1999. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from the University of Northern Iowa.

The Board also named Dr. Janet C. Dunlop as academic assistant principal at Union High School. Dunlop  comes from Oklahoma State University where she served as a resident teacher and adjunct professor of education. Dunlop has been in the education field since 1991. Dunlop received her Bachelor of Science in Education and Bachelor of Arts in English from OSU, as well as her master’s in teaching, learning and leadership. She received her doctorate from OSU in social foundations/curriculum leadership and instruction in May 2007.
 
Joining the administrative staff at the Intermediate High will be Krystal “Gidget” Pettit, who will serve as an assistant principal. Pettit comes to Union from Franklin Youth Academy at Tulsa Public Schools where she was an intern principal since 2005.

Pettit has been in the education field since 1991 when she first started working as an instructor and intramural director for Oral Roberts University. Pettit earned her Bachelor of Science degree from ORU and later obtained a Master’s of Education in Administration degree from Oklahoma State University.

Also new to Union is Jennifer Beer, who has been named an assistant principal at the Sixth/Seventh Grade Center. Beer was previously a computer science teacher at Bixby Middle School. She previously taught at  Canadian Valley Tech Center, at Heritage Hall in Oklahoma City and Piedmont High School. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond and obtained her Master’s Degree in educational administration from UCO also.
