U Run: Learn how to run a 5K

Have you ever wanted to run a 5K? Or have you already run a 5K and are looking for some accountability? Learn how to run 5K (about 3.1 miles) injury-free and as safe as possible, and run with a group to encourage fun!

The instructor will take you through a 9-week program, building cardiovascular fitness, endurance and thestrength to complete a 5K race. Training will take place outdoors (weather permitting). At the end of the program, you will be prepared to run your 5K on the week of November 17.

This training program will take place in the afternoons, and will be broken up into two different levels of training within one large group: Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced.

Beginner: should currently be able to walk/run for .5 miles

Advanced: should currently be able to walk/run for 2.5 miles, and been running for 2-3 months prior to program start. 

Date/time: Mondays and Wednesdays at 4:15 p.m. 

Duration: Monday, September 17-November 14 

Ages: 12 years and older (ages 15 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian) 

Location: Y at Union (meet in Rock Wall room) 

Cost: FREE for members of the Y at Union - $25 for non-members
