Union Schools has partnered with First Baptist Church for two school supply giveaways on Saturday, August 4, benefitting students at the 6th/7th Grade Center, 10100 E. 61st Street, and nearby Grove Elementary School, 10202 E. 62nd Street.
“Between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Saturday, August 4, we are having a Back-to-School Giveaway at the Union 6th/7th Grade Center, for our sixth and seventh graders,” said Mallory Nolen, a Community Schools coordinator. “The giveaways have been donated through First Baptist Church of Tulsa and include a new backpack, a Union spirit shirt, gym clothes and extra school supplies.”
To obtain the materials, students must be registered or in the process of registering at the 6th/7th Grade Center are asked to come at scheduled times Please note the following schedule for parents and students to arrive (there will be enough of everything for every student so please come at your scheduled time):
9 a.m. – Last names A-B
9:30 a.m. – Last names C-D
10 a.m. – Last names E-F
10:30 a.m. – Last names G-H
11 a.m. – Last names I-J
11:30 a.m. – Last names K-L
12 p.m. – Last names M-N
12:30 p.m. – Last names O-P
1 p.m. – Last names Q-R
1:30 p.m. – Last names S-T
2 p.m. – Last names U-V
2:30 p.m. – Last names W-Z
First Baptist Church has also donated supplies to Grove Elementary for a back-to-school giveaway from 9 a.m. to noon at the elementary.
Grove Principal Kim Berns said, “Each Grove student will receive a new backpack, new shoes, a Union spirit shirt, and extra school supplies. Each child must be enrolled or in the process of enrolling at Grove for the 2012-2013 school year.”
Parents are asked to observe the following schedule for Grove:
9 a.m. – Last names A-D
9:30 a.m. – Last names E-H
10 a.m. – Last names I-L
10:30 a.m. – Last names M-P
11 a.m. – Last names Q-T
11:30 a.m. – Last names U-Z
“There will be other community events here at the same time,” Berns added. “For example, Broken Arrow Beauty College will be giving free haircuts.”
Meanwhile, the city of Broken Arrow will throw a “Back-to School Bash” for Union and Broken Arrow students from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, August 4, on the Tulsa Tech Broken Arrow Campus, 4600 South Olive, 129th East Ave & 111th Street South. The event is sponsored by the Broken Arrow Police Department, Broken Arrow Neighbors, and Broken Arrow Campus of Tulsa Technology Center. The Bash is a free health and safety fair for Broken Arrow private and public school students and Union Public School students to get ready to go back to school.
