Dr. Kathy Dodd selected to help lead national education training
for state standards, and college and careers

Kathy DoddUnion Public Schools Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning Dr. Kathy Dodd has been selected as an Oklahoma education leader for the prestigious Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers.

Dodd will join Oklahoma’s educator leader cadre, 24 educators, who join other cadres across the nation as part of a network of K-16 educators that provide leadership on state implementation of the Common Core State Standards and PARCC.

The cadre includes a wide representation of Oklahoma educators from various geographic regions of the state.  In addition, ELC members represent numerous professional organizations, educator stakeholder groups, and informal and formal networks vital to implementation of higher expectations for all students.

“Dr. Dodd’s participation in the ELC over the next three years will contribute to the overall success of Oklahoma's transition to the Common Core State Standards and the PARCC Assessments,” said Kerri White, PARCC state coordinator for the Oklahoma State Department of Education. Dodd will participate in both state-level and national-level training seminars this summer.

“The purpose of the PARCC ELC is to promote transition to the Common Core State Standards and PARCC assessments by sharing information with stakeholders, providing feedback and counsel to Oklahoma State Department of Education staff and PARCC coordinators, and encouraging excellence in education,” White said. “We will discuss the process for implementing our purpose at our orientation meeting, and then we will receive much greater detail and establish a state plan during our training in Chicago.”

PARCC is a 24-state consortium working together to develop next-generation K-12 assessments in English and math.  PARCC benefits:

  • Students who will know if they are on track to graduate ready for college and careers
  • Teachers with regular results available to guide learning and instruction
  • Parents with clear and timely information about the progress of their children
  • States with valid results that are comparable across the member states
  • The nation as it is based on college- and career-ready, internationally-benchmarked Common Core State Standards
