Board of Education to consider 3 options for new start/end times for 2019-2020 school year

The Union Board of Education will consider three options for start and end times for the 2019-2020 school year during its regular meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, April 15, at the Education Service Center, 8506 E. 61st Street. 

A final decision is expected at the May 20 meeting after public review and input. Comments may be directed to [email protected].

Based on the data collected during the review period a final recommendation will be made at the May 20, 2019 Board Meeting. View the Memorandum which will be presented to Board members using the download file button on this page.

These are the recommended times for review: 

Option A
7:40 a.m. – 2:25 p.m.    7th Grade and 8th Grade    
8:10 a.m. – 3:11 p.m.    High School
8:15 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.    9th Grade
9:00 a.m. – 3:45 p.m.    All Elementary Schools
9:30 a.m. – 4:15 p.m.    6th Grade

Option B
7:40 a.m. – 2:25 p.m.    All Elementary Schools    
8:10 a.m. – 3:11 p.m.    High School
8:15 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.    9th Grade
9:00 a.m. – 3:45 p.m.    7th Grade and 8th Grade 
9:30 a.m. – 4:15 p.m.    6th Grade

Option C
7:45 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.    6th Grade, Boevers, Clark, Darnaby, Jarman, Jefferson, McAuliffe, Ochoa, Rosa Parks
8:20 a.m. – 3:21 p.m.    High School
8:25 a.m. – 3:10 p.m.     9th Grade, Grove
9:15 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.       7th Grade, 8th Grade, Andersen, Peters, Cedar Ridge, Moore

The past several years school sites have experienced a number of issues with students arriving late to school and students waiting too long after school for their bus. A committee made up of directors, principals, and teachers have met to look at possible changes and will continue to discuss the advantages and disadvantages. A list of consideration items will be provided at the board meeting.
