Originally posted October 15, 2018
Roy Clark Elementary, 3656 S. 103rd E. Ave., will celebrate its 40th anniversary with a special assembly at 9 a.m. November 7.
The assembly will be a celebration of the school and the school’s namesake, legendary country singer Roy Clark.
“Our Clark singers will sing a few songs, we will have Roy Clark facts and a ‘Hee-Haw’-inspired skit by students,” said Community Schools Liaison Linda Stevenson. There will also be a video of the history of the school and a presentation about Roy Clark.”
Union will host a reception at about 9:45 a.m. after the assembly, featuring memorabilia from the school including old guitars donated by Roy Clark.
Clark Elementary was built in 1978 and dedicated in 1978. In 2011, the elementary was named a National Community School and has become a national model for the Community Schools programs.
Roy Clark, 85, is an American singer and musician. He is best known for hosting "Hee Haw," a nationally televised country variety show, from 1969 to 1992. Clark has been an important and influential figure in country music, both as a performer and helping to popularize the genre.
