Union High School seniors Peter Wetherbee and Te’a Williams were named Mr. and Miss Union – the highest honor a student may receive at Union High School. Wetherbee is the son of Angela Davis and Brian Wetherbee, and Williams is the daughter of Natosha Williams and Tyrone Stewart.
The couple, as well as the top candidates for seniors and juniors, was recognized during a formal ceremony at the Union Performing Arts Center. After the ceremony, junior and senior royalty members were treated to a limo ride to lunch at Charleston’s Restaurant.
Students are selected for the honor based on a combination of popular vote, teacher recommendation, and other factors. In the selection process, all students are given the opportunity to nominate candidates from their own grade. The top vote recipients were placed into the contest. Students were evaluated by their teachers based on school spirit demonstrated, positive leadership, character/integrity, contribution to class and scholarship. The final selection was determined by 20 percent grade point average, 30 percent teacher recommendation score, and 50 percent student vote.
“My parents have taught me to work hard and always keep going no matter what obstacles get in the way,” Wetherbee said. He is active in Union Bands, Interact Club, Model United Nations, Student Council, and National Honor Society. He plans to attend Southern Methodist University and major in both management and public policy.
