Briarglen Elementary School
Briarglen Elementary School operated from 1970 until 2017, until the school was closed following the 2016-2017 school year. Some 500 students from the school moved to the brand new Ellen Ochoa Elementary School.
About Briarglen Elementary School
In the fall of 1970, classes started at Briarglen Elementary, making Briarglen the oldest of the elementary schools in the district. It was named after the housing addition in which it was built. When it closed, Briarglen served about 600 students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade in traditional classrooms.
Working with and through our community of patrons, area businesses, central office administration and our PTA, Briarglen was proud to offer a well-balanced curriculum and activities for students and their families.
Briarglen welcomed the involvement of our community and is proud of its ownership of our school.
The Community Action Project of Tulsa County is opening an early childhood education center this fall in a former Union Public Schools elementary school. The center, for children up to 3 years old, will be located at the former Briarglen Elementary School, 3303 S. 121st East Ave. See Tulsa World story.
The new facility, to be called Briarglen Early Childhood Education Center, will have 12 classrooms to accommodate 132 children, according to the agency.
“For a number of years,” Union Public Schools officials “have embraced early childhood as a centerpiece of their organizational strategy to improve outcomes for kids, and it’s terrific for us to have the strength of a partner like that,” said Steven Dow, executive director of CAP Tulsa.
